The Denmark flag features a red background with the image of a white Nordic or Scandinavian cross placed in the foreground. The cross is made up of a horizontal line running directly through the center of the flag and a vertical line that run closer to the hoist end of the flag, dividing the flag in to unequal quadrants. The Danish national flag’s origins are only recorded in legend and places it at the scene of a battle in 1219. The account states that the flag was first seen at the Battle of Lyndanisse between Denmark and Estonia. The Danes were close to defeat when the Archbishop had fallen to his knees and started praying. With his praying the Danes made inroads and eventually a red flag with a white cross is said to have fallen from the sky.
