Ohio State Flags

The Ohio State flag represents the “Buckeye State” with flair and originality.  Designed by John Eisenmann for the Pan-American exposition in 1901, the Ohio flag is the only non-rectangular U.S. state flag. The Ohio flag is based on those carried by Ohio troops during the Civil and the Spanish-American Wars. Officially termed a burgee, the Ohio flag is a swallowtail flag.  Its colors and elements symbolize the state’s natural features and order of admission into the union. The red and white horizontal stripes represent the roads and waterways of the state. The seventeen white stars in a triangular blue field symbolize the state’s hills and valleys. Ohio was the seventeenth state to join the Union.  Thirteen stars grouped around an “O” represent the original 13 colonies.

Our Ohio state flags are available in several varieties including two outdoor fabrics. Our Beacon Nylon Outdoor Ohio flag, a Carrot-Top exclusive, is the most versatile state flag. These durable flags have the advantage of being lightweight but strong.  This enables them to dry quickly and fly in the slightest breeze.   Our Patriarch Ohio flag, also a Carrot-Top exclusive, is the best quality polyester flag available.  These state flags are crafted from tough, skillfully woven polyester yet have the texture and feel of cotton. They are able to stand up to high winds and are the best choice for coastal areas and extreme weather.

The indoor Ohio state flag is crafted with exquisitely embroidered nylon and feature a lined pole sleeve along the left side.  Luxurious, gold fringe accents the remaining sides. Our miniature 4”x6” and mini 8”x12’ Ohio flags are made of polyester and rayon and come mounted on a black plastic staff with a plastic spearhead. Miniature flags are perfect for gifts, keepsakes, classrooms, special events and more.
