Valley Forge Flag Company is one of the most renowned and respected flag manufacturers in the United States. They are respected for their high-quality flags made with strong materials and patriotic designs. Founded in 1882, the company has a long-standing tradition of producing high-quality, American-made flags trusted by governments, businesses, and individuals alike. Valley Forge Flags signal the heart of America flying proudly during many of the country’s most historical moments, including the moon landing, the German liberation, and the Challenger explosion.

What is the History of the Valley Forge Flag Company?

Valley Forge has a rich history dating back to 1882 in Pennsylvania. It began as a humble yet essential burlap bag refurbisher, an integral product used by American farmers.

While the company grew, it would begin finding true success in 1910, when it became a surplus reseller during World War I, producing quality flags that would fly amid battlefields worldwide. By 1942, as World War II raged on, the demand for American flags reached an all-time high. Valley Forge Flag Company took on the challenge, meeting the needs of a patriotic nation committed to supporting the cause.

Fast forward to the 1960s, and the company secured its place as the largest distributor of interment flags for the Department of Veterans Affairs, even providing the American flag used during the funeral procession of President John Kennedy. Though times change, Valley Forge Flag Company continues to produce high-quality American-made indoor and outdoor flags, available at retailers nationwide!

Famous Valley Forge Flags

As one of the most prominent manufacturers of historical flags in the nation, Valley Forge has proudly flown during several iconic moments in our country’s history.

The Liberation of Germany

WWII saw some of the worst crimes against humanity, with over 80 million people losing their lives between July 1927 and April 1945. On April 11th, 1945, U.S. Soldiers marched into Buchenwald Concentration Camp, liberating over 20,000 prisoners and raising a Valley Forge U.S. flag to symbolize much-awaited freedom.

The Moon Landing

Valley Forge was there to forever mark the first time man stepped foot on the moon. The world watched as Neil Armstrong stepped off the shuttle on July 20th, 1969, and placed man’s first footprint on the moon. Soon after, they staked a flagpole and hoisted a Valley Forge American flag, forever cementing the United States’ position as the first nation to conquer the moon!

The Challenger Explosion

Valley Forge flags have also flown during somber moments, as was the case with the Challenger space mission. In 1986, the doomed shuttle exploded shortly after takeout, tragically killing all on board. Among the cargo was a Valley Forge flag, which had previously flown over the U.S. Capital. Incredibly, rescue teams recovered the flag from the ocean, and in 1987 once again flew it over the Capital as a symbol of the country’s resilience and tenacity.

Ground Zero

After 9/11, flying an American flag was essential for rebuilding the country’s identity and feeling of security, and the one chosen to sit atop the rubble was from Valley Forge. This flag symbolized the pride and camaraderie of all citizens, speaking volumes as it stood steadfast and resolute.

The Valley Forge Company Today

The company continues to manufacture its flags in South Carolina, continuing the tradition of producing quality products solely made in USA. It is also the founding member of the Flag Manufacturers Association of America (FMMA), an organization dedicated to educating the public on the significance of manufacturing flags made in America!
