The parachutist badge is commonly referred to as the “Jump Wings”. As its name suggests the parachutist badge is given to Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps soldier who complete the basic airborne courses of each respective military branch. Air Force parachutist badges differ in design to this parachutist badge.
Our parachutist badge is made of pewter and is an exact replica of the badges handed to basic Army parachutists. For more information see the description below.
The Parachutist badge depicts an open parachute with spread wings on either side of the parachute. The wings curl upwards and meet at the top of the open parachute. The wings suggest flight and the open parachute symbolizes parachute qualifications. The parachutist badge was first designed and approved in 1941 during World War II by Captain William P. Yarborough of the 501st Parachute Battalion. A parachutist badge with a five pointed star placed above the parachute signifies a senior parachutist; a wreath around the star signifies a master parachutist.
