They feature woven polyester fibers that incorporate Open Weave technology. This allows wind to pass through the fabrics for reduced bulk and faster drying. Brief History of the Utah Flag 

Utah's original flag was created in 1903 and flew for over 100 years. Efforts to change the historical Utah flag began in 2021 after a survey revealed that Utahns didn't feel like their flag represented them. In 2022, Governor Spencer J. Cox created the Utah State Flag Task Force, which gathered designs from more than 7,000 residents. With the help of public feedback and professional designers, Utahns whittled the submissions down to one final design, the beehive flag, and voted to make it official on March 3, 2023.
 

Utah's new state flag is set to take effect on March 9, 2024. According to the governor's executive order, the Utah state capital will fly both versions of the Utah flag. Utah's old flag will now be known as the historical Utah flag. 

What is the Significance of the New Utah Flag Design? 

The Utah State Flag Task Force created the new flag's design after conducting several surveys to find out what Utahns valued most about their state.
 

According to the official state website, the dark blue background represents the wide-open skies. The beehive emblem represents Utah's community, history, and the state slogan. The hexagon, which encircles the beehive, represents strength and unity; and the red rocks and mountains represent Utah's world-famous landscape. As a final touch, the five-pointed star, placed right beneath the beehive, symbolizes 1896, when Utah received official statehood.
