The use of parade axes dates back to the 1890’s when a drill team called the Modern Woodmen Foresters started carrying them. The Foresters were part of the fraternal order called the “Modern Woodmen of America”. The Foresters were well known across the country for their flashy parade axes, colorful uniforms and their flawless drills. The parade axes were a symbol of their trade, where some drill teams used riles, batons or flags the Foresters used parade axes as a symbol of their profession as Woodmen. Our parade axes are similar to the ones carried by the Forester drill team; they are extremely light and easy to carry but are full sized with a shiny, polished finish. The ceremonial axes are now seen as implements for firefighting and ceremonial axes are often used by firefighter honor guards.
