History of the Bonnie Blue (Republic of West Florida) Flag
The Bonnie Blue Flag has a storied history dating back to 1810 when it was first used to represent the Republic of West Florida, a short-lived free republic that broke away from colonial rule before becoming part of present-day Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The Bonnie Blue flag was also used by the Republic of Texas and the Republic of Mississippi for a short period of time. The Bonnie Blue Flag gained popularity in the American South when Harry McCarthy wrote the song “The Bonnie Blue Flag.” Shortly thereafter, the flag was adopted by the Confederate States of America as a symbol of secession (Source: NCpedia.org).
