About the Episcopal Flag

Created in 1918 for the 50th anniversary of the Long Island Diocese, the Episcopal Church flag features a white field, representing the purity of Christ, with the bright red cross of St. George, the patron saint of England, which extends to the edges. The canton is light blue, representing human nature, and includes nine Jerusalem crosses to pay homage to the original dioceses of the church in America in 1789. The design became the official Episcopal flag in 1940.
