The 2nd Infantry division patch is one of the most popular unit insignias in the U.S Army. Nicknamed the Indianhead patch due to its unique design, the symbol has been a representation of the 2nd Infantry division since 1918.
Our 2nd Infantry division patches can be attached to any kind of fabric by ironing or sewing. These high quality Indianhead patches are built tough for long term use. For more information and history of the 2nd Infantry division patch see the description tab below.
The 2nd Infantry division patch features a black shield with a white star, and a Native American’s head with a war bonnet in profile. The Native American’s skin is colored red and the war bonnet is colored white and blue. The 2nd infantry division’s patch design is a result of competition organized by Colonel Herringshaw of the Service and Support Supply of the Second Infantry Division. The star and Native American’s head won first and second prizes in the competition. It is believed that Colonel Herringshaw combined the two winning entries to create the patch we see today. The black shield was added 1920 and the symbol was authorized as the official insignia of the division.
