The 5th Special Forces group patch - Airborne is given to soldiers who belong to the 5th Special Forces group and have completed the necessary Airborne courses to be eligible for mission requiring parachuting skills. The Special Forces units are also known as the Green Berets due to their distinctive uniform.

Details

This 5th Special Forces Group patch features a teal blue arrow head as a background with a yellow dagger and three lightning bolts superimposed on the blade of the dagger. Above the arrow head embroidered on a black tab, in yellow lettering, is the word “AIRBORNE”. The blue arrowhead represents the scouting skills of American Indians. Special Forces are trained to a high degree in American Indian stealth and field craft techniques. The yellow dagger represents the unique and conventional nature of the Special Forces missions. The three lightning bolts represents the Green Berets’ ability to strike by air, land and water. The Airborne tab signifies that a soldier has been through airborne school and possesses the necessary airborne qualifications.
