The 82nd Airborne division patch features a red square background with a blue circle in the middle. On the blue circle are the stylized letters “AA”. The 82nd Airborne division is known as the All Americans, the nickname originated because of the initial makeup of the unit. The initial members of the division came from all 48 states. Above the red square is a tab with the word “AIRBORNE”, embroidered in white. The division was created in 1917 to carry out specialized parachute missions where soldiers would drop in to denied areas (most often behind enemy lines) to carry out operations.
