Idaho State Flags
The Idaho State flag celebrates the “Gem State’s” sovereignty and its belief in equality. The flag consists of a navy blue field with the State Seal of Idaho at its center. The words “State of Idaho” appear in gold letters on a red band below the seal. The Idaho Seal depicts a miner and a woman as symbols of equality, liberty and justice. Idaho was one of the first states to grant women the right to vote in 1896. Mining was Idaho’s chief industry when it became a state in 1890. Other images inside the Seal denote Idaho’s rich and abundant natural resources. The pine tree symbolizes the state’s extensive timber interests while two cornucopias, or horns of plenty, refer to state’s vast horticultural riches. Elk and Moose are protected by Idaho gaming law. The flag was adopted in 1907.
