Join us in a nationwide movement to be GREEN! Carrot-Top Industries is teaming up with other industry leaders to introduce our Flag Recycling Program. You can easily send any style tattered or faded American flags to our warehouse where we will respectfully disassemble the flag and recycle the different materials appropriately.
"The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." - The Flag Code
Is Carrot-Top following The Flag Code?
The Flag Code was written in 1923 when only organic materials like cotton were used in production. These materials did not release harmful fumes into the air while burning as the synthetic materials, like nylon or polyester, do today. Many communities today do not have the resources to provide disposal due to ordinances against burning. So how do you respectfully retire your flags with that in mind? Recycling, of course! Only by working together can we make a difference!
"We at Carrot-Top Industries have long been vigilant about recycling paper, plastic, cans and reusing anything that we can around the office. The Flag Recycling Program allows us to offer a helpful service to our customers while being good stewards of the environment." - Dwight Morris, Founder & President
What type of flags do you accept for recycling?
How does a flag get respectfully recycled?
STEP 1: We begin by removing the heading and grommets or staffs if the flags are mounted.
STEP 2: Then we remove the star field because most embroidery is created using a polyester thread and will need to be recycled differently. Most importantly, by removing the star field we are disassembling the flag and rendering it no longer a flag which allows us to recycle the materials without burning them.
STEP 3: Lastly, we recycle each fabric separately so they can be broken down into raw materials for use in other industrial and consumer products!
If you have old or worn flags that you want to dispose of in a respectful way send them to us and we’ll take care of it. With over 30 years of experience providing American-made US flags, we understand the importance of respectful care and disposal! You can trust that we will recycle your flags in a proper manner that is environmentally conscience.
